Agent Skills are reusable folders of instructions and supporting references that teach compatible AI agents how to perform particular tasks.

A Skill normally contains a SKILL.md file with a name, description, workflow, constraints, and links to detailed references. Compatible agents first discover lightweight Skill metadata, load the full instructions when a task matches, and read additional references only when needed. This progressive-disclosure approach provides detailed guidance without loading the entire knowledge set into every session.
